Ruby Carter and Angus McMillan ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (30th November).
Our weekly parkrun top ten is now sponsored by the Coggiola Endurance Centre, a residential coaching and performance facility in the Italian Alps. Follow on Instagram for more updates in the new future.
Every Saturday at 9am, parkrun goes ahead thanks to the army of volunteers who help in organising, setting up and marshalling (and much more). It’s never nice to see a parkrun cancelled because of a lack of volunteers, as was sadly the case at Exeter Riverside this morning. So, if you can, we strongly encourage you to volunteer!
Ruby Carter was the fastest woman by thirteen seconds this weekend, running 16:38 at Battersea. Given the reputation it has developed over many years, it was only a matter of time before the newly-created parkrun made it to the top of the rankings.
It is an impressive time for the Hercules Wimbledon athlete (although unattached on her parkrun profile!). Her previous fastest was 17:34, run last week, and it’s also faster than her 5k PB.
In his first parkrun outing of the year, Angus McMillan clocked an impressive 14:47 at Keswick parkrun. He was the only runner to finish inside 15 minutes this weekend. Angus has a 5k PB of 13:57, set at Armagh this year. He finished 12th at Sefton Park and the European XC Champs trials last weekend.
Best of the Rest
Ellarose Whitworth was second fastest this weekend, running 16:51 at Doddington Hall. That time is a parkrun best for the Lincoln Wellington junior and only four seconds shy of her 5k PB. Last week, she won the U17 race at the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool in a strong field. Clearly she is in great form at the moment!
Running at Brooklands, Louise Small’s 16:55 put her third on the rankings. It was the AFD athlete’s thirteenth parkrun of 2024. It’s been a busy year; a 2:29:33 marathon PB in Frankfurt last month and a 16:03 5k PB earlier in the year amongst the highlights.
Patrick Sheridan ran 15:00 at Belfast Victoria to take second in the men’s rankings, aptly in his second parkrun of the year. It is an eighteen second improvement on his previous fastest parkrun, on the same course in March.
Alex Milne clocked the same time – 15:00 – at Battersea to sit joint second. The Hercules Wimbledon man made it to fourth on the rankings last week. Next week he will be taking part in the World 100k Championships in India. The team are self-funding for travel and have set up a Fundraiser here for any who can support the GB&NI team heading out there.
Fastest Course
With five appearances, including a first and third, Battersea takes the honours this weekend.
