Lauren Heyes and Omer Ahmed ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (3rd August).

Our weekly parkrun top ten is now sponsored by the Coggiola Endurance Centre, a residential coaching and performance facility in the Italian Alps. Follow on Instagram for more updates in the new future.

There was a clear winner at the top of the women’s rankings these week with Lauren Heyes clocking 16:26 at the beautiful Eden Project parkrun and being over 30 seconds clear of anyone else. The GB international excels on tough courses and represented Great Britain at the World Cross Country Champs this year in Belgrade.

Omer Ahmed was the fastest chap, also 30 seconds ahead of the pack, with a rapid 14:17 at Wolverhampton parkrun. The Ethiopian Birchfield Harrier has a 5k best of 13:42 from 2020 and this is his fastest parkrun since 2019 so we might be seeing some more 5k fireworks soon. He ran 10k three times in July, all under 30 minutes and twice under 29 with a 28:36 win at Wilmslow 10k the best of the lot.

The rest of the podium?

Just over 17 minutes at Heaton parkrun was Isabel Holt of Blackburn Harriers & AC. With 17:04 comes a new parkrun PB for the U20, who has run 16:27 for 5k this year as well at Podium 5k in June, as well as strong runs on the country, track and indoors to show some great range.

Seyd Taha Ghafari was the second quickest chap with 14:47 at Strathclyde parkrun and that equals his parkrun PB from last year. The Highgate/Shettleston Harrier has also been racing a bunch of 10ks this year with the quickest being 30:31 at Loch Lomond 10k.

Sophie Nicholls of Wells City Harriers ran 17:20 for the third spot on the women’s podium and Joe Sagar and Mohammed Hussein were joint third male with 15:14 at Keswick Leicester Victoria parkruns repetitively.

The fastest course?

It was a Heyes double, backed by Rebecca Ezra of Tamar Trotters, that put Eden Project parkrun top of the charts this week with three runners in the rankings.
