Charlie Thornton and Jake Smith ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this week (Saturday 19th April).
Our weekly parkrun top ten is sponsored by the Coggiola Endurance Centre, a residential coaching and performance facility in the Italian Alps. Follow on Instagram for more updates in the new future.
After a second place last week, Charlie Thornton moved one place higher to take first on this weekend’s rankings. Running at Yarborough Leisure Centre parkrun, she finished in 17:09. That is ten seconds faster than her last visit to this course, in January. It is also only three seconds shy of her fastest ever parkrun. That set last week (and equals a time from last year). Charlie has set PBs for 10k (34:41) and half marathon (75:28) this year, and so is off to an excellent start in 2025.
One week out from racing the London Marathon, Jake Smith tops the men’s rankings with a 14:22 outing at Quakers Walk. It is an impressive time on a course that includes a number of 360 degree turns. That time is just seven seconds off his parkrun ‘PB’, run back in 2022, and bodes well for the slightly longer distance in eight days time.
Best of the Rest
Jake Pickett (15:04) and Luke Greer (15:08) complete the men’s podium this week, after running at East Park and Northampton respectively. On the women’s side, Chloe Sharp and Erin Willmers are second and third. Chloe ran 17:14 at Pegwell Bay and Erin 17:16 at Salisbury.
Running at Victoria parkrun in Glasgow, it was great to see Tokyo Olympian Steph Davies (now Kessell) back running. She ran 17:17 in her first ‘race’ (edit: first Pof10 entry!) since giving birth in October.
Fastest Course
Two courses appear twice this week – Norwich and Battersea. With a fourth place and sixth place, Norwich takes the honours this weekend (compared to sixth and eighth at Battersea).
