Nike have announced that its sub-2:00 attempt will take place in the first weekend of May in Monza, Italy.
The ambitious attempt will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, site of the September’s annual Italian Grand Prix.
To try and ensure ideal weather conditions the Breaking2 project will have a three-day (May 6-9) window.
If it takes place on Saturday, May 6, it will be exactly 63 years to the day after Roger Bannister became the first person to run a sub-4:00 mile.
The athletes who will attempting the sub-2:00 marathon are Eliud Kipchoge, Zersenay Tadese, and Lilesa Desisa.
Eliud Kipchoge marathon personal best is 2:03:05, Desisa’s PB is 2:04:45, and Zersenay Tadese PB is 2:10:41.
The race venue will be closed off to the public but will streamed live around the world.
