Adelle Tracey and Charlie Eastaugh ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (2nd December).
Our weekly parkrun top ten is now sponsored by Vertebrate Publishing (my publisher) and here’s a link to buy my book on their website. They actually have a bunch of great books to choose from, especially the mountaineering ones, so don’t feel like you have to buy 1001 Running Tips.
So the top 10 is a little late this week…well, a lot late, but there’s a decent excuse. This time last week I was running 254km around a 2km loop in a parkrun in Taiwan for the World 24hr Running Championships and now I’m home.
Running considerably faster around a park was Jamaican international middle distance runner Adelle Tracey with an excellent 15:47 at Dulwich parkrun. Off the back of a season that saw PBs for both 800 and 1500m at the World Athletics Champs, we’re not sure where a parkrun PB sits, but over a minute quicker than her last mark is worth celebrating.
Charlie Eastaugh of Hercules Wimbledon was the quickest male with 15:04 at the same event as Tracey. There hasn’t been as many PBs this year but this is his fastest parkrun of 2023 and consistency across the season was strong and a 5000m track PB by just 21 hundreds of a second is something to note. That dip for the line coming in handy.
The best of the rest
There was a fair gap to second in the women’s rankings, almost two minutes, but that speaks more about the class of the runner in first spot than anything else. Ellarose Whitworth was second with 17:36 at Lincoln parkrun. The Lincoln Wellington athlete, like Tracey, has PBed over 800 and 1500m on the track this summer and the U15 has a bright future ahead.
Eskander Osman was just eight seconds back from Eastaugh at Belfast Victoria parkrun in Northern Ireland. We don’t have a huge amount of information on Power of 10, but it is the second athlete of the week I have been able to search via first name. Osman has a parkrun best of 14:44 from last year at the same event and is more likely to feature in our weekly Irish round-up by Lindie Naughton.
Ellie Marie Monks of Southampton AC was third fastest female in 17:39 at Brockenhurst parkrun. After a 2:02:39 PB for 20 miles in March it has been a quiet year for Monks, up until Autumn and now we’re seeing a bundle of activity so hopefully some winter PBs to come on the south coast.
Ben Jones, who we’re definitely not finding with a search for just first, second or full name, was third fastest male with 15:21. There’s even two Cambridge and Coleridge AC runners with the same name but we think this was the younger of the two who also ran for York Uni and City of York. After all this investigating it was too tiring to write much else, but Mr. Jones is fast.
The fastest course?
Dulwich featured five times this week, including Adelle Tracey’s supersonic effort, so takes the title with ease.
