Sinead Lambe and Evan Fitzgerald ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland this weekend (7th December)

Sinead Lambe set herself a new parkrun PB of 17:49 at Malahide to finish as this week’s fastest female parkrunner. The Donore Harrier finished 2nd at the Stook 10 mile last month, the same position she achieved at the Kilkock 10 in August. Lambe was also a member of the winning Donore team at the Irish Life Health National Road Relays in April.

Retaining his position at the top of the parkrun times this week was Evan Fitzgerald with 15:40 at Clonmel. The Clonmel AC man’s time was enough to set a new parkrun PB and to break Tom Aldred’s course record. A Bronze medal winner at the Munster Junior Cross Country at Conna last month Fitzgerald was also a Junior Award winner at the Ballinameela 5k road race in October.

Armagh athlete Natalie Hall ran a huge parkrun PB of over 30 seconds to run 17:55 and finish as this week’s second fastest female parkrunner and break 18 minutes for 5km for the first time. Hall is clearly in fine form as she also clocked a big PB at the Seeley Cup 10km last week running 36:51, a PB by over two minutes.

Tommy Hughes was also in action at MUSA Cookstown and the Irish distance running legend never disappoints. His time of 16:07 was a parkrun PB and represented an age graded 5km score of 98.66%. Hughes turns 60 next month and the current world road 5km record standards just one second faster at 16:06 set by Welsh wizard Martin Rees. The smart money would be on that record falling to Hughes in 2020.

Sharing second spot on the list this week was Stephen Connolly of Annadale Striders who also ran 16:07 at Ormeau parkrun. On a week of PBs this was another big one with Connolly taking 30 seconds off his previous best time. It was a similar story to Natalie Hall as the Annadale man also clocked a big PB at the Seeley Cup to run 32:43 taking 90 seconds of his previous PB set at Laganside 10K in September.

Elaine McGuckin was another athlete running a parkrun PB and again MUSA Cookstown was the venue. McGuckin’s time of 18:14 was a 19 second PB for the athlete who is fresh off the back of a 2:56:59 PB at the Dublin Marathon in October. The unattached athlete was also 7th at the Belfast City Half Marathon in September running 84:41.

Evan Fitzgerald and Annette Kealy ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland this weekend (30th November)

Evan Fitzgerald of Clonmel Athletic Club ran 15:52 at Clonmel to set the fastest parkrun time in Ireland this weekend. With a 5th place finish at Ballinameela 5k in October and a 3rd place finish at Bandon 5km in early November Fitzgerald went on to win a Bronze medal at the Munster Junior Cross Country at Conna later in the month.

There was good depth in women’s parkrun this week with the top seven all running inside 19 minutes. Top of the list was the familiar name of Annette Kealy. Kealy this week won Masters Athlete of the year at the National Athletics Awards and celebrated it in style with her 3rd fastest parkrun ever with 17:50 at Malahide and an age graded score of 96:36%. The award came in a year where the Raheny Shamrock won the W50 World Cross Country title, the European W50 5,000m title and the 10km European W50 championship on the road.

After an 8th placed finish at the u/18 Irish Life National Cross Country Championships last week Callum Morgan ran the eqaul 2nd fastest parkrun in Ireland this weekend. 16:17 was a new parkrun PB for the Ulster Schools 3000m Champion who has junior international representation in track, XC and mountain racing.

Also clocking 16:17 and a parkrun PB this week was Pat Hennessy who was first back at Kilkenny. The West Waterford man was a winner of September’s Greenway Half Marathon in 70:20 and his parkrun performance came the day after racing in Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile Race on Friday night.

Like Annette Kealy, Teresa Doherty (nee McGloin) is a well known name in Irish distance running. The Donegal athlete was first back overall when breaking the course record at Dungloe parkrun in 18:06. Doherty boasts PBs of 34:22 for 10km and 16:38 for 5000m and claimed her 10th senior Donegal XC Championships crown earlier this month.

Winner of the Northern Ireland & Ulster Even Age Group XC Championships in October Robyn McKee was the third fastest woman this week running 18:20 at Belfast Victoria. The Dromore athlete has had a fine 2019 and was the winner of last week’s Malcolm Cup Open XC in Ballyclare.

A mention also goes to under 14 Kirsti Foster, back in the top 10 this week now running for Willowfield, clocking the fourth fastest time on the Castlewellan course.

Annette Kealy and Tom Lupton are your quickest parkrunners in Ireland this weekend (July 6th).

It was a week featuring a high quality top 10 of women’s times including two well known names in Irish athletics. PB’s were also seen throughout the fastest men’s times on another week of full sub 17 and sub 20 times.

Masters athletes top the list

It is said class is permanent and this week two masters who both feature in Ireland’s all time top 60 for both 5,000m and the marathon fill the top two spots. Annette Kealy ran 18:02 at Malahide to top the rankings. Kealy, whose marathon best of 2:43:04 puts her 41st on Ireland’s all time list, is a regular face at Malahide and this was her ninth outing of 2019.

Second fastest this week is Ireland’s national record holder at the marathon, half marathon and 15km, Catherina McKiernan. On her first outing on the Bushy parkrun course McKiernan ran 18:11 to finish second overall by one second. The distance running legend sits 87th on the world all time list for the marathon with her 2:22:23 clocking at Amsterdam Marathon in 1998.

Regular visitor to the parkrun top 10 Sarah Grant rounded off the top three running 18:18 at Derry City on a week of generally very fast women’s times. Grant is in good form having achieved a 1500m PB of 4:38.11 last week and was only four seconds outside her parkrun best of 18:14.

Lupton leads the way

Tom Lupton was head and shoulders clear of the competition this week running a big parkrun PB of 15:57 at Vicarstown. The winner of the Laois Athletics Senior Road Race in April Lupton finished more than three minutes clear of his nearest challenger on the entirely grass course.

Samuel Allen was this week’s second fastest runner, also setting a new PB. Allen’s run of 16:19 at Naas was a 59 second improvement on his previous best. Winner of last weeks Ards Half Marathon Neill Weir was third this week with 16:36 at Belfast Victoria. The Willowfield Harrier, who has a 5km best of 15:32 was closely challenged by David Conliffe who finished two seconds back.

Under 17 Gavin McCaffrey has had a good week having run 15:43 at the North Down AC Senior 5,000m on Tuesday. The Ballymena & Antrim AC runner was this week’s fifth fastest with 16:40 at Antrim.

Josh O’Sullivan-Hourihan continued his impressive progress claiming a new parkrun PB and leading this week’s top 10. 16:04 was a big 25 second PB for the Donor Harrier who has competed for Ireland on multiple occasions at the World Orienteering Championships. He will be encouraged by his progression has he looks ahead to the 2020 event.

Stephen Nicholson of Pace Running Club was this week’s second fastest runner with 16:36 at Belfast Victoria. Nicholson has been in good form in 2019 setting a 5km PB of 16:24 at the Northern Ireland and Ulster Championships and finishing fourth at last week’s Loup 5 mile race.

Joint third place runners this week were Evan Fitzgerald and Thomas Sherlock both with 16:37. Fitzgerald of Clonmel Athletics Club was last week’s second fastest runner. Thomas Sherlock has had a busy week, clocking 9:13 in the 3,000m at the graded meet in Tallaght on Wednesday night.

Grace Lynch topped the women’s times this week with 18:12 at Tramore to finish first overall. The PT and strength and conditioning coach will be well known to many followers of distance running in the UK and Ireland from her insightful blogs for Irish Athletics. Lynch has also been in strong form in 2019 running a 10km best of 35:32 in Dublin in April.

Kirsti Foster was the second fastest this week with the under 15 clocking an excellent 18:51 at Belfast Victoria. Ulster Schools 800m champion Foster was also 27th at this year’s Virgin London Mini Marathon. It was a good week for fast running juniors with Lauren Molloy also featuring in the top 10 with 19:42 at Omagh. Under 15 Lucy Foster also just missed out on the top 10 with her 19:45 at Belfast Victoria.

Amy Bulman, 9th last week rises 4 places to 5th this week with 19:27. The Willowfield Harrier has a 5km best of 17:37 is a regular visitor to the top 10.

This weekend saw personal bests needed for the two athletes at the top of the male and female rankings. A bit of racing, although parkrun isn’t a race itself, might have seen one or two athletes get the best for themselves.

Sean Carrigg ran 16:21 at River Valley to finish as the fastest parkrunner in Ireland this week. The personal trainer from Clonliffe Harriers has a good junior pedigree as a middle distance runner and 16:21 was a new parkrun best for Carrigg. Third placed Ciaran McCarthy may have pushed the pace in the early or final stages as he was only just 16 seconds back.

Sandwiched between the two runners at River Valley was Evan Fitzgerald. The Clonmel man was second fastest this week with 16:25 at his home parkrun, also clocking a PB.

Aoibhinn McGoldrick of Raheny Shamrock AC ran 18:06 to finish as this week’s fastest female runner. The under 20 athlete took over a minute off her previous best of 19:12. McGoldrick has stepped up from 400m to run solid junior times at 1500m (4:37) and 800m (2:12) and this PB will be particularly pleasing after a 2019 that has seen a few ups and downs with injury.

It might have been the two other athletes at St. Annes, John Higgins and Martin McKenna, just ahead in 16:59 and 17:12 respectively, that could have dragged McGoldrick along to a new personal best. The pair also made our top ten this week.

Sarah Lavery was second fastest with 18:51. Lavery set a new 5km best in April clocking 17:06 at the North Ireland champs in April. 2019 has been a fine year so far for the Beechmount Harrier who also set PBs at 10km and 80:46 to finish second at Bohermeen Half Marathon.

Rounding off the top three was Orla Byrne, running 18:54 at Clonmel. A regular visitor to the top 10 Byrne was a little off her best time of 18:24 set in April on a week when all top 10 women ran inside 20 minutes.

It seems three parkruns featured three times this week, with Marlay Park, the start point for the Wicklow Way 127km ultra marathon a couple of weeks ago, seeing quick times, as well as Clonmel and St. Anne’s. If you fancy a quick time then it seems all three might be worth a visit.

Barry Sheil and Sarah Quigley ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland this weekend

Whilst there was a 14:50 clocking at St Anne’s parkrun the runner failed to hand in their barcode meaning Barry Sheil of Longford AC topped this week’s men’s leader board. Sheil, who ran a 10km PB of 32:55 to win Longford 10km in March, took a significant chunk off his previous parkrun best with 15:33 at Mullingar.

Sarah Quigley had a strong run at Malahide finishing over two and a half minutes ahead of the second placed female athlete finishing in 18:50. The Raheny Shamrock athlete has run five parkruns and has a best of 18:41, which she posted in 2017 and equalled this January at the Malahide event.

Evergreen V55 Tommy Hughes was second fastest man this week running 16:27 at MUSA Cookstown. Hughes who ran 2:13:59 over the marathon distance in 1992 has had a fantastic year clocking 2:30:15 at this year’s Rotterdam Marathon.

Leann Gibson was the second fastest woman this week, a regular name in the top 10, Gibson was only a few seconds slower than her parkrun PB of 18:46. Victoria Park and Connswater AC’s Gibson won races such as the Portrush 5 miler in 2018 and will be looking for a good season ahead after already posting 3:01:48 at the Belfast City Marathon this May.

Third fastest man, Alexander Wallace, revised his own course record at Royal Canal to run 16:28 and Dearbhla Sheridan, third fastest woman claimed a big new PB at Belfast Victoria in 19:01.

Martin Cox and Gemma McDonald were the fastest parkrunners in Ireland this weekend (27 April).

At Omagh parkrun Martin Cox is a regular and this weekend ran 16:17 to top the Irish parkrun rankings, although he didn’t have to go as fast as his 15:48 parkrun best from 2018. The V35 runner was seventh at the Armagh International 3k race bacon February and has posted some quick 5k times already in 2019 with a 15:24 his best so far.

Gemma Mcdonald ran 19:14 to finish first overall at the Ecos parkrun in Ballymena. The Ballycastle Runners AC athlete has raced a whole host of distances already in 2019 and posted personal bests over 10 miles 963:58) and half marathon (84:43). It looks like its going to be a good year for the V35 runner who also won the 4k Northern Ireland & Ulster Intermediate & Masters’ Cross Country Championships.

Second placed Leann Gibson of Victoria Park and Connswater AC also won her event outright this weekend, showing the men just how to run fast with a 19:36 at Stormont parkrun. After PBs at parkrun, five mile, 10k and half marathon in 2018 Gibson is already hitting quick times in the park this year and could have a bright summer ahead.

Declan Toal of North East Runners ran 16:47 to finish second in our rankings and did so at Dundalk parkrun. It was a new parkrun best for the V45 runner on his 16th visit to the Dundalk event and scored an impressive 85.80% age grading.

The last man under 17 minutes was Mark Cornett at Citypark in Craigavon and only three other women broke 20 minutes. They were Rachel Smith (19:42), Eimear Griffin (19:49) and Lisa Clerkin (19:52) who ran at Ballingcollig, Malahide and Cootehill parkruns respectively.
