Second fastest last week, Annette Kealy moved to top spot this week running 15 seconds faster for 18:04. V50 athlete Kealy achieved an age graded score of 93.91% as she led the field to finish first overall at Malahide. The prolific parkrunner Kealy has a 10km PB of 34:37 and 5,000m best of 16:29 both set back in 2003.

The top three all ran under 19 minutes this week with Harriette Ann-Marie Robinson of Dundrum South Dublin AC running 18:51 to claim second spot. Eimear O’Brien rounded off the top three with 18:56 at Sligo. Another notable performance in the women’s top 10 was under 15 Lauren Molloy running a PB of 19:31 at Omagh to finish this week’s 6th fastest runner.

John Black was the quickest male this week with a sub 16 minute clocking at Belfast Victoria. North Belfast Harrier Black ran his parkrun PB with 15:57 to finish 65 seconds clear of second place runner Neill Weir, who was this week’s 10th fastest runner. Black ran 15:16 at this years Armagh 5km and ran a half marathon PB of 71:01 to finish third at Larne Half in March. Raheny Shamrock AC

The second fastest male runner was Ian Christopher Conroy of Raheny Shamrock AC with 16:02 at St Anne’s. A former winner of Ireland’s Mountain Runner of the Year prize, Conroy’s run saw off a strong challenge from this week’s fourth fastest runner Stephen Lawlor (16:17). Eskander Osman ran 16:03 at Ormeau to finish as the third fastest runner on this week’s list.

After a short hiatus to run an excellent 2:17:29 at the London Marathon Paul Martelletti returns to his seat atop the parkrun weekly rankings. Running 14:43 at Victoria Dock parkrun, the marathoner is back in action and wowing parkrun attendees across London once again.

Lauren Cooper is hitting 2019 in style. After a 36:28 PB over 10k at the Speedway 10k in January, the Welsh athlete has knocked her parkrun best out of the park. With a 16:58 at Bryn Bach parkrun Cooper has even gone under her 5k and 5000m marks so hopefully we will see a parkrun best tune into a 5k PB in the near future.

George King is another athlete who has been taking 2019 by storm and posting Pbs for fun. His 15:01 at Hackney Marhes is a new parkrun best for King and comes on the back of a 31:00 at the Great Bristol 10k on the 5th May. It was only in March that the Tom Craggs coached runner ran 67:39 for a breakthrough half marathon performance at Bath Half and was apparently “a little tired” after this morning’s solid effort.

Normally if two runners post the same time we give them equal positions, as you can’t race at different events and we don’t do photo finishes across the UK. But at Worthing parkrun it seems Maisie Trafford and Leah Harris had a bit of a tear up and both ran 17:10 at the flat south coast event.

It was a parkrun best for both athletes, although Harris only had a 20:20 from 2011 and recently ran an excellent 34:54 at Chichester Priory 10k. Trafford also ran a 35:40 at Chichester and this may well have been a rematch for the U23s.

Only Worthing and Worcester Pitchcroft (the Richardson siblings always ensure their parkrun features twice) were in the rankings more than once.

Joshua Grace ran a sub 15 minute time of 14:52 at the Bushy parkrun to record the fastest time in the UK this week.

The Aldershot athlete, who boasts a road 5k personal best of 14:16, was taking part in his fifth Saturday morning 5k and walked away with a new parkrun best.

Bushy parkrun secured a men’s one-two thanks to Alan Stewart’s nippy 15:20 run. It was a 5k PB for the Chiltern Harriers runner who was taking part in his 82nd parkrun.

Tiffany Penfold was the fastest woman this week after running 17:41 at the Workington event. The young Copeland AC athlete was running in her 58th parkrun and this year has recorded PBs on the track over 800m, 1500m and 3000m.

Top 10 regular Jo Williams was once again at the forefront of fast parkrun performances and took the women’s number two spot. The Lothian RC athlete posted a quick 17:48 at the Livingston parkrun.

There were two unknown men who missed out on top three places, a 15:05 run at the Waterworks parkrun in Belfast and a 15:13 performance at the Exeter Riverside event.

Elsewhere, Newcastle (Staffs) AC’s Lucy Matthews, with the assistance of her canine friend, posted a 16:36 performance at Kingsbury Water event.

Bushy parkrun was the most represented event among the top 10 with a fantastic three runners in the men’s top four.

Amy Clements ran 16:57 at the Dulwich parkrun to top the female rankings this week. The Kent AC athlete is certainly a versatile runner and has had victories from 400m up to 30km over the summer.

Clements is a regular at the Southern Athletics League and has run PBs over 400m, 800m and 3000m this year. The 30k win came at the North Downs Run 30k, which is one of the challenging trails in the south of England.

Jonathan Poole ran 14:52 at Gunnersbury event to break his own course record and tops the men’s rankings this weekend. The V35 runner had already set PBs for 5000m, 10,000m, 5k and 10k in 2018, so could possibly see him lowering of his 2:20:38 marathon PB this autumn.

A regular in the parkrun top 10 is Paul Martelletti and, due to a Southampton parkrunner not bringing their barcode, sits at second place this week with 14:57.

As per usual, parkrun alone on a Saturday morning wasn’t enough for the New Zealand born athlete, who takes warm downs more seriously than most and he enjoyed a 10.11 mile jog straight after the event.

Paul Pollock, one of Ireland’s top distance runners, ran 15:09 at Bushy parkrun and posted the third fastest time among the men. The Northern Irish man was recently named in the team for the Commonwealth half marathon championships later this month.

The 62 minute half and 2:15 full marathoner was in action for Ireland this summer at the European Championships and it is good to see him getting amongst the action at parkrun.

Fresh from a 10,000m track PB of 34:34.65 at the Kent AC Club and Open Championships last weekend, Isobel Clark ran the second quickest female time of the weekend. 17:09 isn’t a parkrun PB, but isn’t far off her 16:52 parkrun best.

Another name that popped up in the top 10 was that of Derek Hawkins, brother of Callum Hawkins. Both brothers represented Great Britain over the marathon and it is good to see the older sibling back in action running 15:20 at Strathclyde parkrun.

Josephine Moultrie posted a 17:40 at the same event to make matching sixth places for the Scottish parkrun.

Just outside of the top 10 in joint 12th place was Anna Boniface, who ran an excellent 18:07 at the Bushy parkrun. Boniface has been sharing journey back from injury as part of the Fast 10: class of 2018, and it’s great to see her back running so well.

Brits Adam Hickey and Khai Amelie Mhlanga were the fastest in the UK and also the world for parkrun this past weekend. Although times were slower than last week’s and it was a close run contest.

South Africa’s Michael Pienaar has a 5000m personal best of 14:17.48 so could well feature atop the list in future weeks. The University of Pretoria student has broken 15 minutes this year back at a meet in Sasolburg in April.

Russia featured next and there was little we could find out about Timofey Dadyko but his 15:19 was a course record for the Krasnoyarsk NaberezhnayaKrasnoyarsk Naberezhnaya. The parkrun only started in July this year and only had 18 who ran, jogged and walked the course this week.

The Russian parkrun is staffed by six volunteers and will hopefully go from strength to strength.

The only other non UK runner to break into the top 10 was Peter Bracken in Australia. The BERT Squad runner posted 15:24 to be first finisher at Kedron parkrun.

The BERT Squad stands for Brisbane Endurance Running Training and Bracken leads the group, although the training is set by coach Peter Reeves in Ipswich, south west of Brisbane. Bracken ran 2:33 for the Melbourne marathon this year and his 15:24 suggest he is still improving.

Khai Amelie Mhlanga’s 17:00 flat was enough for both the UK and the global top spot. Running at the fast Exeter Riverside parkrun has helped a few athletes post personal bests in recent weeks.

Belinda Martin of Australia was only 11 seconds off the top. Surely there will be an Australian female posting the quickest time soon as they feature heavily each week.

The former youth sprinter, who actually won a national 90m hurdles title at 12 years ofd, has been running successfully over longer distances as a Masters athlete. With Australian masters records at 1500m and 5000m but her daughter, Imogen Stuart, has a selection of age group world records from age nine onwards.

Two more Australians, Marnie Ponton and Michelle Pearson, both featured for the second week running in the global top 10.

In eight place was a surprise from Sweden. Amanda Gardelin ran 17:33 at the Jungsängen parkrun, Stockholm county. On closer inspection of Instagram it seems Amanda is a cane-cross athlete so had her hound Gustar to thank of the top 10 position. It was a parkrun PB for the pair and the first kilometre was apparently 2:55!

The UK once again dominated the standings with four Australians and one from each of Russia, South Africa and Sweden.

Stephen Kelly recorded the fastest time this week at parkrun events across the island of Ireland with a 16:34 run at the Oldbridge event.

It was the Drogheda and District runner’s eighth visit to the Saturday morning 5k.

English runner Amanda Scott ran 17:50 at the Poolbeg event in Dublin to take the women’s top spot. According to all available stats, the former Cambridge Uni Hare & Hounds athlete hasn’t raced in eight years. Hopefully, this quick parkrun time will see her make a return.

The Listowel parkrun saw the men’s second-fastest time this week thanks to a 16:41 run by Donal White. The Kerry Crusaders runner was taking part in his eighth parkrun.

Northern Irish international Rachel Gibson ran 18:05 at the Belfast Victoria event to record the second quickest women’s time. It was parkrun number 45 for the North Down athlete.

The most represented parkrun in the top 10 was Belfast Victoria with three runners.

Adam Hickey was running at his local Southend parkrun and set a 14:40 time for the 5km to record the fastest men’s time across the UK. Although way slower than the speedster’s 13:41.66 5000m PB, it is a regular training run at the windy parkrun.

Khai Amelie Mhlanga of Herts Phoenix ran the fastest female time clocking 17:00 at the Exeter Riverside event. The U20 improved on her previous parkrun best of 18:06 and brings the mark in line with her 4:18.83 and 9.33.35 1500m and 3000m times.

Preston’s Joseph Monk clocked a new parkrun best of 15:22 to take the men’s number two spot this week. The Preston Harrier has a 5k PB of 15:18, which was set at the Christleton 5k in May 2017.

Anti-Doping PhD student Jake Shelley ran 15:36 alongside Allan James Stewart at Bushy Park. One might think it was a training effort for the two, rather than an out and out sprint finish as it was over both runner’s PBs.

Jessica Gibbon made the journey from Whitstable to Maidenhead this week and jumped up one place in the rankings to number two after running three seconds quicker in a time of 17:19. Lauren Hall also featured for the second week running and was one place higher in eighth with 17:52.

Hayley Carruthers regularly features on the parkrun top 10 and was a solid third place with 17:22. The Rotherham Harrier continues to have a great 2018.

Commonwealth bronze medallist Robbie Simpson ran 15:38 to get eighth place in the men’s rankings fresh from a 10k victory in Aberdeen last weekend. The Scot will be running the Jungfrau marathon later this month.

Mike Christoforou, who placed 10th said he was “just blowing away some cobwebs before Stirling 10k next week”. All the best Mike.

Exeter Riverside had a runner in both the top ten male and female rankings, but Shelley and Stewart’s joint first in Bushy Park means the two parkrun events share the fastest honours this week.

For the first time, Fast Running has collated the global top 10 rankings for parkrun. Although the Saturday morning 5k event is still largely a UK and Irish phenomenon, worldwide popularity is growing with 20 countries now taking part.

Jake Smith and Lucy Charles were top of the UK rankings this week and held those spots globally, but while the UK dominance shows in the men’s rankings, the women’s top 10 is a real global mix.

Close competition for fastest lady

Competition was close for Charles with Kyrgyzstan Olympian Yulia Andreyeva running 16:51 in Russia. Ufa Botanichesky Sad parkrun in Moscow is one of several in the Russian city. The marathoner competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics with a personal best of 2:33:04.

For the number three spot, it’s a trip to the other side of the world for a 17:07 run by Marnie Ponton of UP Coaching at Nepean River parkrun in Australia.

The former Australian national steeplechase champion is the current New South Wales 5km champion and also won the Six Foot Track ultra marathon in 2017.

Ireland’s marathon record holder Catherina McKiernan topped the Irish rankings and her time cemented fourth place on the global list.

Annabel Gummow of the UK and Michelle Pearson of Australia were joint fifth in 17:21. Pearson is the second of four Australians that feature in the top 10.

Running 17:24 at Pegasus parkrun in New Zealand, was Hannah Oldroyd. The Airedale Dodger is actually from Lancashire and ran a 2:45 marathon in Copenhagen in May. That was just after a 2:46 showing at the oppressively hot London Marathon in April.

South African runners feature

South Africa featured twice in the top 10 rankings, once in the male and once in the female rankings. Mesa Molotsane of Kovsie AC ran 17:28 for seventh place female and Kgomotso Reuben Mosiane ran 15:23 to finish equal 10th in the men’s rankings alongside Omer Ahmed of the UK.

The only other male to break the British dominance of the rankings was William McCain. The Tempo Team runner posted 15:20 to top the Australian male rankings at Pakapakanthi event.

Fastest nation

It is an easy calculation for the male rankings as British runners filled eight of the top 10 spots. But the Australians and Brits were the most prominent in the female rankings with three placings per country. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top next week.

Exmouth parkrun featured twice so could possibly be considered the fastest parkrun in the world this week.

Catherina McKiernan ran the quickest women’s time at parkruns across the island of Ireland this weekend with a 17:16 outing at the Malahide event in Dublin.

It is the second time the Irish marathon record holder has topped the list this month.

Under-17 athlete Conall McClean recorded the fastest men’s time for a third time this year with a quick 16:23 performance at the Waterworks parkrun in Belfast. It was parkrun number 120 for the young St. Malachy’s athlete.

Annette Kealy once again featured at the forefront of the Saturday morning 5k runs and took the women’s number two spot with a top 18:26 run at the Malahide event.

Last Thursday (August 23) the Raheny Shamrock athlete was the first woman and fourth overall at the Portmarnock 5k, and this coming week heads to Malaga, where she will represent Ireland at the World Masters Athletics Championships.

Thomas Sherlock recorded the second fastest men’s time with a 16:24 run at the Porterstown event in Dublin. It was parkrun number 34 for the Clonliffe Harriers athlete who was only one second off his parkrun best.

With the two top women across the island of Ireland and one runner in the men’s top 10, the Malahide parkrun is the fastest this week.

However, it was a close call as the Belfast Victoria event also impressed with three runners.

For the second time this year under-17 athlete Conall McClean ran the fastest men’s time at parkruns across the island of Ireland. The St Malachy’s runner recorded a quick 16:25 on his 119th visit to the Waterworks parkrun in Belfast.

Earlier this month the Irish schools and mountain running international finished second at the GymCo Feile 10km in Belfast in 33:09.

Deirdre Byrne ran 17:27 at the St Anne’s event in Dublin to claim the women’s top spot this weekend. The Sli Cualann athlete and former Irish international was taking part in her 32nd parkrun.

Ballymena Runners’ James Hamilton made a first appearance at the Orangefield parkrun and claimed the men’s number two spot with a 16:39 performance.

The British international T20 middle-distance runner has been a regualr among the top 10 in recent weeks and was taking part in his 66th Saturday morning 5k.

Mari Troeng ran 18:59 at the Castlewellan event to record the second fastest women’s time across the island of Ireland. It was a new parkrun best for the Newcastle & District athlete.

Belfast Victoria was the most represented parkrun in the top 10 with three runners, while St Malachy’s and Raheny Shamrock were the highest performing club with two runners each among the mix.
