Long Eaton parkrun was again the place to be for quick times this week and it was triathlete Barclay Izzard who topped this week’s list running 14:48. Having finished 5th at the Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup in July Izzard had a nasty fall in August breaking a collarbone ending his season. Currently ranked 71st on the ITU world rankings Blizzard clocked 14:14 at Armagh 5km in February. It’s great to see his rehab going well, and that he is back running fast.

Chloe Sharp of Central Park Athletics Club ran 17:13 to finish as this week’s fastest female runner. The under 20 middle distance specialist sneaked a parkrun PB by one second after a season that saw her clock 9:36.84 to finish 10th at the 3000m at the Loughbrough International as well as claiming the Kent 1500m title in May.

u/20 Intercounties XC champion Matt Willis was this week’s second fastest male athlete, running 14:53 also at Long Eaton smashing his previous parkrun best of 15:25. The England international also finished 10th in the Loughborough international 3000m running 8:21.80. Willis is also a triathlete finish 24th at Tiszaujvaros ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup in July.

The familiar name of Mhairi MacLennan ran 17:14 to finish 19 seconds outside the course record at Preston parkrun and this week’s second fastest woman. The GB international has had a strong year with at fantastic PB of 15:51.78 at the BMC in May and 32:58.42 at the Night of the 10000m PBs.

Horsham’s Max Dumbrell had an excellent run top claim his parkrun PB at Worthing parkrun. Coached by Brighton supremo Allison Benton Dumbrell 2:31 to finish 14th at the Brighton Marathon in April. England athlete Danielle Hodgkinson of Wallsend was the 3rd fastest female with 17:17 to break the course record at Blyth Links. The versatile athlete has had an excellent 2019 with PBs at 1500m, 3000m, 5km and representing England at the Parelloop 10km and winning the Titanic Quarter 10km in 33:41.

Waterworks parkrun was the place to be for fast men’s times this week with five of the top 10 times. Tony McCambridge led them home with 15:50. The St Malachys man was a winner at last week’s Laganside 10km and is enjoying a fine year with big PBs at 3000m (8:41.84) and 5000m (15:04.68) as well as finishing 28th in the European Mountain Running Championships in July.

McCambridge was pushed hard to the line at Waterworks by Andrew Milligan who was 2nd fastest this week with 15:52. Milligan, who was 9th at Laganside 10km last week, clocked a 1500m PB of 3:56.09 at the Stretford BMC at end of August.

3rd fastest last week and again this week was Commonwealth Games steeplechaser Adam Kirk-Smith who improved on last week’s time to run 16:01 at Wallace his fastest of three back to back weeks at parkrun. 

Rachel Gibson broke the course record at Derry City parkrun with a blistering 17:29. The Northern Ireland & Ulster 1500m Champion clocked a big 3000m PB last month at the Belfast International running 9:33.18 and was also in action at the Manchester International where she ran a PB of 4:55.64 in the mile.

Sorcha Loughnane clocked a new parkrun PB running 18:26 at Poppintree. 9th at the recent Fran Duffy 10 mile race in 66:24 as she builds up to the Dublin Marathon next month.

Sarah Baryga was this week’s third fastest running 18:45 at Marlay. Baryga was 8th at the recent Rock n Roll half marathon in Dublin and 2nd at the DLR 10km both in August and is a regular visitor to the parkrun top 10.

Only two weeks after her mother, Australian international Belinda Martin, missed out by just 11 seconds, young Imogen ‘Imy’ Stewart is the fastest parkrunner in the world.

Stewart holds multiple age group world records and has been setting middle distance event records since before her teenage years. It is the first time since starting the global top 10 lists that a non-British runner has been the fastest. It has always seemed likely that an Australian would be the first to do so.

The competitiveness of Bushy parkrun is keeping the men’s top spot out of reach for other nations. With three of the top four times coming from the south west London event it must be the place to be if a runner wants a PB. Joshua Grace was 28 seconds ahead of regular Allan Stewart and Alex Tovey was only four seconds behind him.

Adam Hickey’s 15:26 was a course record at Hockley Woods parkrun, which we understand to be a bit of an undulating course. It was probably worth about 13:50 on the flat…

Freyja Prentice, of Aberdeen AAC, also posted an overseas top 10 performance. At the fast Pegasus parkrun in New Zealand, the Scot seemingly tested the water last week with an 18:20 and then went 30 seconds faster with a bit of course knowledge. Could even have been evidence of jet lag easing off?

Two other Austrian males made it into the rankings with Stefan Music (15:26) and Arron Spiessberger-Parker (15:30) in Rooty Hill and Huskisson parkruns.

A noteworthy mention for Alistair Hay posting the fastest parkrun on German soil with a 15:35 at Hasenheide parkrun. The sub 30 min veteran might have travelled just to try a new parkrun?

Annette Kealy ran 18:09 at the Malahide parkrun to recorded the fastest women’s time across the island of Ireland this week. The Raheny Shamrock masters athlete was taking part in her 70th Saturday morning 5k.

Kealy’s fast run comes after winning a fantastic 10k silver at the World Masters Championships in Malaga last weekend.

parkrun tourist Elly Tarus clinched the men’s official number one spot on Saturday with a 16:05 run at the Antrim event. The Kenyan born athlete, who competes for Salford Harriers in the UK, has a quick marathon personal best of 2:25:10.

Meanwhile, there was an unknown runner who missed out on the men’s honours after posting 15:05 at the Waterworks parkrun in Belfast.

The second fastest in the men’s rankings this week was teenager Conall McClean who clocked a new best of 16:06 on his 122nd visit to parkrun.

Adrienne Jordan clinched the women’s number two spot with an 18:49 run at the St Anne’s event in Dublin. The Metro St Brigid’s runner was taking part in her fourth parkrun.

The St Anne’s parkrun was also the most represented event with three runners among the top 10, while Raheny Shamrock took the club honours with three athletes.

Welsh runner Rob Samuel was in Dublin over the weekend and started his Saturday morning by running the fastest parkrun time across the island of Ireland.

The Eryri Harriers runner recorded a quick 15:05 at the St Anne’s event finishing almost two minutes ahead of the next runner. The 2:21 marathoner ran a super fast 14:40 earlier this year at the Podium 5k in Barrowford, England.

Irish international marathoner Sean Hehir took the men’s number two spot with an impressive 15:45 run at the Hartstown event.

Hehir, who competed for Ireland at the European Championships in August, was taking part in his second parkrun.

Sinead Lambe was the fastest women across Ireland after posting a parkrun best of 18:07 at the Malahide event.

It was parkrun number seven for the Donore Harriers athlete who earlier this year finished third at the Braveheart Trail 5k.

For the second consecutive week, Northern Irish international Rachel Gibson claimed the women’s runner-up spot. The North Down athlete ran 18:19 at the Queen’s event in Belfast and it was her 46th visit to parkrun.

The Dunleer AC athlete was taking part in her 17th Saturday morning 5k and walks away with a new personal best.

Ormeau parkrun in Belfast had the most runners among the top 10 with three, while the most represented clubs were Rathfarnham Wsaf, Dunleer AC, Willowfield Harriers and Annadale Striders with two athletes each.
