]]> With runners and athletes sharing all those special moments on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, there are always a few things that catch the eye.

Here are a few good, bad and humorous posts that stood out this week.

1. A 4:17.9 mile in -20 temperatures – The inaugural Antarctic Mile was run by Ireland’s Paul Robinson on Saturday (November 25). Held in conjunction with the annual Antarctic Ice Marathon, it’s the fastest ever mile known in Antarctica. Respect 💪

 

2. Hang time – A great leap by heptathlete Katarina Johnson Thompson that you could watch all day!

3. Mud bath in Liverpool – Ben Connor and Emelia Gorecka won the battles in Sefton Park in perfect cross country conditions.

An absolute mud bath but this lad got the job done today. So chuffed for @bdconnor to come away with the win.

4. 800m runner gives 8km of mud a go – Adelle Tracey, more familiar running 800m on the track, even took on the challenging conditions in Liverpool – finishing a respectable 39th. Thumbs up  👍

5. Photo of the week – Kevin Dooney finishing second at the Irish National Cross Country Championships – a picture is worth a thousand words.

 

6. Who knew USATF has a sense of humour – USA athletes enjoy Thanksgiving thanks to a bit of photoshop ‘magic’ from USATF.

 

7. Coach of the year and 75-years-old – IAAF Coach of the Year was awarded to Ans Botha (current coach to Wayde van Niekerk) “Love for what you do, passion and enthusiasm” is what you need to be a successful coach.

 

8. On point! – Sprinter Gina Akpe-Moses’ new spikes – where do we get a pair?

2. No words needed – North Central College’s uniforms at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday. But before you shake your head the Cardinals did go on to win an 18th NCAA Division III title.

4. Gary O’Hanlon on Instagram  – following a mass uploading of photos in a few days, the highlight from O’Hanlon who didn’t…and then did win the Irish national marathon title last month, dives into the sea for a recovery dip after a tempo run. Maybe that’s the secret to two marathon PBs in your mid-40s.

5. Vlogging – Eilish McColgan is taking over the vlogging world… we hear the BAFTA Rising Star Award is as good as hers.

 

6. Shalane Flanagan keeps inspiring – but she must be running out of motivational quotes because this was a lazy attempt “If you want something……go chase after it.” But hey, she did win the NYC marathon – that’s good enough.

7. What else would you do on a stag do? Dave Norman and company about to start a 14-mile hilly road race dressed up as superheroes.

 

8. Sir Mo – Mo Farah officially becomes Sir Mo. That top hat 👍

 

9. A thing of beauty – University of Michigan’s new 300m practice track that surrounds there 200m competition track.

 

10. Grit – This was last weekend but still worthy of a mention. After her kit stolen pre race in Spain, Fionnuala McCormack makes do in trainers, leggings and sleeves rolled up to finish fifth. Respect. 👊
