In the 1500m Healy cruised to the gold medal, finishing over three seconds ahead of the nearest challenger. Once the bell sounded for the final lap Healy was away and wasn’t going to be beat.

The young Irish athlete’s lead increased with every metre of the track before she crossed the line in 4:19.85 to take the gold, leaving the rest of the field nearly 40m behind. Healy’s time is also a new personal best.

Kazimierska Klaudia of Poland finished second, with Austria’s Anna Baumgartner finishing third for the bronze.

Also securing a bronze medal for Ireland today was the girl’s 4x100m relay team. The quartet of Rhasidat Adekele, Patience Jumbo-Gula, Niamh Foley and Miriam Daly completed the one lap of the track in 46.38.

Two members of the team Patience Jumbo-Gula and Rhasidat Adekele also won individual medals easier this week. Jumbo-Gila bronze in the 100m and Adekele silver in the 200m.

In total Ireland won six medals, Lara Gillespie won silver in Cycling Time Trial and Jade Williams secured a bronze in the Hammer.

The 4x100m girls team of Rhasidat Adekele, Patience Jumbo-Gula, Niamh Foley and Miriam Daly came through their semifinal on Friday with ease in 46.31, finishing over a second ahead of the Swiss team in 47.37, with the Poland finishing third.

In the other semifinal, the Netherlands were slightly quicker in 46.26.

The Irish quartet which boosts sprint medalists at Rhasidat Adekele and Patience Jumbo-Gula, head into today’s final with a great chance of a podium spot.

Earlier this week Patience Jumbo-Gula won the bronze medal in the 1oom, before Rhasidat Adekele went one better to pick up the silver medal in the 200m.
