Daire Bermingham and Bronagh Kearns ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland on Saturday 1st February

Daire Bermingham was comfortably clear at the top this week with his 15:30 at Malahide. In his time in the States Bermingham set the college record in the indoor mile (4:08.44) for Stony Brook and finished third in the mile at the America East Indoor Championships.

Bronagh Kearns was the fastest woman at parkrun this weekend taking nearly a minute off the course record at New Cross with 18:03 in what was her first parkrun. Kearns was a bronze medallist at the 2019 National 5km Championships.

Adam Ferris ran the second fastest parkrun time this weekend with 16:03 at Waterworks. Ferris was a member of the u/20 Northern Irish team that finished 3rd at the Irish Celtic International and Home International XC. Ferris set a new 5000m PB of 15:16.51 whem winning the Ulster Schools’ Championships last year.

Carol Finn was the second fastest woman with 18:54 at Ballincollig. Finn finished 3rd at the recent Dupont FMC BHAA 5km in Cork and was a winner of the HSE 5km at Tramore Valley Park in November running 18:36. Finn has a 1500m PB of 4:35.64 set in 2015.

Peter Donnelly is a new comer to distance running and he ran a big parkrun PB of 16:26 at City Park to finish as the third fastest man this week. Donnelly, who only has performances logged for 2019, progressed from a 37:44 at Laganside 10km in September to 34:27 at Seeley Cup 10K in November, some untapped potential there we suspect!

Rosses AC athlete Amy Greene than 19:08 at Dungloe parkrun to cross the line first overall at Dungloe parkrun and to set her new parkrun PB. The under 17 athlete just edged out Helen McCready who finished 2nd overall in 19:09. Amy Greene was awarded the Northern Ireland & Ulster u17 Mountain Running Athlete of the Year in 2019.

Annette Kealy continued to show great form this week running 17:54 at Malahide for finish as this week’s fastest female athlete at parkrun. Kealy is one of the leading masters athletes in Europe and ran 17:23 at the Rathfarnham 5km in September.

Ben Branagh was back in parkrun action this week matching his parkrun best from 2017 running 14:58 at Waterworks to break Kevin Seaward’s course record. Branagh was 6th at the Bangor 10km in September running 31:07 and this performance suggests the St. Malachy’s man is getting back to the fitness that saw him set PBs of 14:16.79 for 5000m in 2017 and 30:28 for 10km in 2018.

Paul O’Donnell smashed his previous parkrun best running 15:15 at Marlay parkrun, narrowly missing the course record by two seconds. O’Donnell set a 5000m PB in May clocking 14:31.37.
Off the back of a ninth placed finish at the British Cross Challenge last week Adam Ferris clocked a controlled 16:02 at Waterworks to finish as this week’s third fastest male. The winner of the Ulster School’s 5000m championship Ferris was also fourth at the Laganside 10km in early September.
