Briscoe claims her 10th win at the Ward Green 6, while Dixon enjoys a sixth Saltwell 10k victory, plus catch up on the rest of the weekend action across the UK.

After victory at the Stockport 10 two weeks ago, Julie Briscoe continued her December winning streak with a 10th win at the Ward Green 6 in Barnsley on Sunday (December 23).

The 42 year-old, who was taking part in the Barnsley AC organised race for the 20th time, was the first woman across the line. The men’s race was won by Barnsley AC’s 16 year-old Scott Nutter on his first attempt. Could Scott start racking up the wins for the future?

Full results weren’t available at the time of publishing, but we tried, I promise you, we tried.

Aly Dixon and Adrian Bailes won The Ronnie Walker Saltwell 10k in Gateshead on Saturday (December 22).

The Saltwell Harriers organised event first took place in 1911 and is the oldest road race in England.

GB international marathoner Dixon, who is a regular participant and a winner in 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012 and 2011, returned on Saturday to win the women’s race for a sixth time in 36:19.

The 2:29 marathoner said on Twitter that “My best run was 2013 but my favourite was back in ’95 when I ran my very 1st 10k there finishing in 42.07!” Who would have guessed the illustrious career ahead back then?

Overall it's been a pretty poor year with lots of interruptions and below par performances and there is nobody more disappointed in that than me. . But I've enjoyed getting back out and doing some of the local races, reminding myself why I love running and the running community. . I'm not done yet, I'll be back next year for more, hopefully some new events and even maybe a new distance!! . At the end of the day I just LOVE RUNNING!!! .

British Athletics have announced a strong trail running team for the IAU World Trail Championships in Badia Prataglia, Italy, on June 10.

The team will include Jo Zakrzewski, and trial winners Tom Payn and Julie Briscoe.

The quintet of senior men will be led by Tom Payn, who will attempt to better his 47th place finish from last year’s championships. The ultra trail athlete, was first to cross the line at official trial event, finishing the 32 mile, Haworth Hobble course, in 3:54.18.

Company to the Run Fast athlete comes from Gareth Hughes and Matt Roberts, with both athletes securing automatic selection following respective second and third place finishes at the trials. Scot Kyle Grieg (Lewis Walker) earns his first British vest for the championships on the back of claiming fourth at the trial.

The top three female finishers from Haworth’s trial event are all present on the team following resolute runs in Yorkshire, with British Athletics team debutant Julie Briscoe (Bashir Hussain) heading up the women’s team following her victory last weekend.

Competing at her third consecutive IAU World Trail Championships, Sally Fawcett joins Briscoe on the team, with Katie Kaars Sijpesteijn also selected following an impressive run for third at the Hobble.

Carnethy athlete Helen Bonsor is selected on the back of her fourth place finish at the trial and, while last year’s World Trail team bronze medallists Jo Meek and Jo Zakrzewski will hope to emulate their runs from Portugal’s championships last October, as the pair complete the sextet of senior women on the team.
