Amy Moran and Ben Branagh ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland this weekend (23rd November)

After a recent PB and win at the Brain Tumour Ireland 10k Amy Moran was the fastest woman at parkrun in Ireland this weekend. The Dundrum South Dublin athlete ran 19:09 to comfortably top the charts from the next fastest runner Edel Reilly. Moran finished 19th at the Rathfarnham 5k in September running 18:34 and 10th at Roscommon Harriers 10 mile race in July.

After Sean Tobin’s record breaking performance last week it was another sub 15 minute clocking at the top of the men’s times this week. Ben Branagh’s 14:54 was enough to break the course record at Waterworks and his own parkrun PB. The St. Malachy’s man had a break through performance at the Leeds Abbey Dash 10km in October clocking 29:38 to top the Northern Ireland road 10km rankings for 2019.

Edel Reilly was the second fastest female runner this week also running a parkrun PB and clocking the second fastest time over the Castlebar course. Mayo AC athlete Reilly was second at the Hollymount 6km road race last week where the yoga instructor ran 23:25.

The third fastest woman this week was Martina Kiely who ran 19:21 at Ballincollig a little short of her best time of 18:12 which represents the fourth fastest time run on the Innishmore course. AAI National Masters Cross Country Champion Kiely was also a member of the St Finbarrs team who won the National F35 Road Relay title in April.

Another runner setting a parkrun PB this week was Jamie Gahan who in clocking 15:49 again showed Malahide is a great course for quick times. Gahan, who ran 2:47:41 at Dublin Marathon, took 17 seconds off his previous parkrun best set last week at St Anne’s. Gahan looks to have really benefitted from the endurance built up through marathon training as this was a significant jump forwards for the Portmarnock A.C. man.

Eoin Mullan’s time of 16:04 at Omagh was a massive 43 second parkrun PB for the Omagh Harrier who was second at last week’s County Down 5km where he clocked an impressive 15:10. In September Mullan ran 33:33 at Bangor 10km to eqaul his PB set at the Seeley Cup in 2018. He looks in excellent form so should be set to improve that mark if he lines up on Ormeau Embankment next week.

Ben Branagh and Kate Cronin are your runners at parkrun in Ireland this weekend (September 21st).

It was a rapid week with six men running inside 16 minutes at Irish parkruns. Despite improving his parkrun PB by three seconds 15:45 saw last week’s fastest runner Tony McCambridge only third fastest this week after very quick times from Ben Branagh and Sean Doyle.

St. Malachy’s Branagh ran 15:14 at Waterworks just 16 second outside his own course record. The 14:16 5000m man has not been in competitive action in the UK since winning the Seeley Cup 10K in December 2018 in a PB of 30:28 so this will be a pleasing result for many followers of athletics in Ireland.

Sean Doyle was second fastest this week with 15:28 to break the course record at Naas. Doyle, who ran 31:27 at the Irish National 10,000m Championships in July was a winner of the Dundrum 5k in May clocking 14:53.

McCambridge claimed his parkrun PB with 15:45 after shifting his focus to Belfast Victoria to finish 10 seconds clear of young Matthew Lavery who also clamed a PB of 15:55. Evan Fitzgerald and Adam Ferris also ran sub 16 with Fitzgerald claiming a new parkrun PB of 15:48 at Clonmel just two seconds outside the course record.

Kate Cronin became the third fastest athlete over the Malahide course and finished as the fastest female this week clocking 17:26 at Malahide. The Raheny Shamrock athlete is an Irish international mountain runner with a 10km best of 35:31.

Sophie Wood of Sale Harriers smashed the course record at Stormont with 18:18. Wood was a second place finisher at Salford City 10km two weeks ago when she clocked 35:51 and ran her 5km PB in July with 17:09 at the Sale Sizzler 5km.

Junior Cassie Lagan ran the third fastest time this week and her own parkrun PB with 18:39 at MUSA Cookstown. The Omagh athlete was 2nd at the Ulster Schools Championships over 3000m in May and was a winner of the Beragh 5K in May. 2:12 800m runner Aoibhinn McGoldrick was the other athlete to break 19 minutes this week running 18:52 at St Anne’s.

St Malachy’s Ben Branagh and Letterkenny’s Nakita Burke won the Seeley Cup 10k titles in Belfast on Saturday (December 1).

Despite not hosting the NI & Ulster 10k Championships this year, the prestigious road race, that starts at the Ormeau Embankment before laps in the Ormeau Park, once again welcomed the strongest depth of any 10k in Northern Ireland with 23 men finishing under 33 minutes and seven women under 37 minutes.

Branagh won the men’s race in a personal best time of 30:29 ahead of North Belfast Harriers’ Mark McKinstry, who also ran under 31 minutes for the first time crossing the finish line in 30:38 (CT:30:36).

McKinstry, who won the M35 title at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International last month, was followed home by City of Lisburn’s Chris Madden who clocked a PB of 31:16 (CT:31:14).

Annadale Striders’ Conall Kirk and North Belfast Harriers Conan McCaughey completed the top five with 11 men running 32 minutes or quicker.

North Belfast Harriers won the men’s team title ahead of Acorns AC and Foyle Valley AC, with McKinstry, McCaughey, John Black, Conor Curran, Kent Swann and Neil Carty counting for the club.

Nakita Burke followed up her recent win at the Donegal Cross Country Championships with a strong performance to take the women’s title.

The Letterkenny athlete crossed the finish line first in a PB of 34:57 (CT:34:54) ahead of North Down’s Jessica Craig and Caitriona Jennings, also of Letterkenny AC.
